Balfegó represents the fifth generation of fishermen from L’Ametlla de Mar, a town on the northwestern Mediterranean coast with a strong fishing tradition. In the 1980s, this family decided to invest in the farming of bluefin tuna. After many years of dedication, they succeeded in transforming the traditional fishing of this species into the world’s leading company in catching, feeding, studying, and marketing bluefin tuna — all in an innovative and sustainable way, both socially and environmentally.

Today, Balfegó operates in more than 30 countries and employs over 350 people who remain true to the company’s roots and essence: an honest and responsible product. Balfegó’s traceability system is unique in the world of seafood. With just a mobile phone and the QR code provided with each portion, customers whether traders, chefs, or end consumers can access all relevant information about the bluefin tuna they are buying or tasting. This includes key details such as the catch date and location, weight, length, and fat content, along with direct access to health and quality certificates.
